One of the benefits of being a member of Marine Rescue Hervey Bay (MRHB), is the reciprocal rights with other areas. This gives members reduced towing or assistance costs if help is needed in certain areas along the Queensland Coast.

For MRHB Members

  • If you are an SO$, Gold or Ordinary member of MRHB, you qualify for Reciprocal Rights.
  • If you take your boat out in one of the following VMR areas: Gladstone, Round Hill (1770) or Bundaberg and you need assistance, you will pay 1.5x the cost of the fuel they use. If you are an SO$ or Gold member, then you can claim the costs back against your MRHB membership. Any cost over the ceiling for your membership will be your responsibility ($500 for SO$ and $1,000 for Gold membership). The tow will be counted against your MRHB membership.
  • If you take your boat to Brisbane or the Gold Coast (Caloundra Bar south to Tweed Heads), VMR or Coastguard will assist you for $100 per hour (up to a maximum of $200). You will be towed to the closest safe haven. They will charge MRHB direct for this service. If you are an SO$ or Gold member, costs will be put against your MRHB membership. Any cost over the ceiling for your membership will be invoiced to the member ($500 for SO$ and $1,000 for Gold membership). The tow will be counted against your MRHB membership.

For OTHER squadron members coming to Hervey Bay

  • Any Marine Rescue member of Gladstone, Round Hill (1770) or Bundaberg who requires assistance in the MRHB area will pay us 1.5x the cost of the fuel. Once invoiced and a receipt for payment received, they can then make a claim against their home membership.
  • Any Marine Rescue OR Coastguard member from South East Queensland (Caloundra Bar south to Tweed Heads) who requires assistance in the MRHB area will pay us 1.5x the cost of the fuel. Once invoiced and a receipt for payment received, they can then make a claim against their home membership.

For clarification reciprocal rights DO NOT apply north of the MR Gladstone area or for the Coastguard Squadrons on the Sunshine Coast, or any Marine Rescue or Coastguard Squadrons outside of Queensland.
